Bhaskaracharya was one of the leading mathematicians of the 12th century. He is famous for his book Siddanta Shiromani, which is divided into four sections: Lilavati (Arithmetic), Beejaganit (Algebra), Goladhyaya (Sphere) and Grahaganit (mathematics of planets).

He developed the Cyclic or the Chakrawat method for solving algebraic equations. The Bhaskara II satellite, named in honor of the mathematician and astronomer, was launched by the Indian Space Research Organization (ISRO) on November 20, 1981.
